Generation
In addition to random generation, general stores and armor shops can stock bronze plate mail.
Player monster barbarians, knights, priests, and valkyries have an effective 5⁄124 chance (roughly ~4.03%) of forcing bronze plate mail in place of their initial body armor.[1][2][3][4]
Description
While worn, bronze plate mail provides 6 base AC and MC1.
Strategy
Bronze plate mail offers 1 less base AC and a lower level of magic cancellation than standard plate mail for the same amount of weight, with its only advantage being immunity to erosion by rust (but not corrosion). A dwarvish mithril-coat offers the same AC along with MC2 for 1⁄3 of the weight, and an elven mithril-coat is still preferable for and similar protection and weight with 1 less point of AC.
History
Bronze plate mail first appears in NetHack 1.3d. From this version to NetHack 3.4.3, including some variants based on those versions, bronze plate mail does not offer any magic cancellation.
Variants
In variants with object materials systems, bronze plate mail is usually removed, with plate mail made of copper providing much of the same characteristics, if not slightly improved ones.
SLASH'EM
In SLASH'EM, bronze plate mail does not confer any magic cancellation.
dNetHack
In dNetHack, bronze plate mail is phased out.
Githyanki pirates generate with plate mail made of bronze - the original Pirate patch that introduces them specifies bronze plate mail.
SlashTHEM
In SlashTHEM, in addition to SLASH'EM details, githyanki pirates generate with bronze plate mail as in dNetHack.
